BUA Thai & Sushi Bar Update

BUA Restaurant & Sushi Bar is beginning to take shape. The first picture above shows the design foundations that will evolve into the entrance foyer area. This area will be crowned with a modern chandelier that creates an aura of light from it’s “mercury clouds” that will suspend from the circle shown in the second photo. The alabaster finish on the bar just went up and can be seen in the third photo. This translucent material will be backlit and provide a soft glow in the bar area.

Dramatic changes are coming this week! Final trim details will be added and the trend setting color palette will begin to be applied this week.

New Thai Restaurant & Sushi Bar!

Here are a few construction photos of our latest project under construction, BUA, a Thai Restaurant & Sushi Bar located in Town Brookhaven, Georgia. Bua is the Thai word for lotus. Pictured here is the main dining area and sushi bar with "petal" ceiling details. Rhodes Design Group designed the interior space layout and has enjoyed working with Lan, an interior designer in Thailand, on the interior finishes.

Bua is scheduled to open in October and we'll have more photos soon.

Egg Harbor Cafe opening soon in Johns Creek!

Our newest project is happening right now in Johns Creek on Medlock Bridge Road...it's the old JR’s restaurant. Egg Harbor Cafe hails from the Chicago area and is expanding into the Atlanta market. They are open for breakfast and lunch and we hear they’ve got a fabulous menu! We’re about three weeks away from completing the project and we’ll post more photos when we’re done.

Sprig Restaurant and Bar in Decatur is finished!

We are finished with the Sprig Restaurant and Bar tenant buildout. We’ve come a long way on this job...take a look at our post from July 29th and you’ll see what we mean! Rhodes Design Group worked closely with the new tenants on a look they wanted...reclaimed wood planks, a sliding overhead door for access to the patio, a zinc topped bar, polished concrete floors, curved walls...we even helped them design the logo and signage. James Rhodes and Nick Ladikos oversaw all aspects of the construction project. Nick, a former executive chef, even had a hand in the kitchen re-design and layout. The next time you are in the Decatur area, check out the restaurant in the Vista Grove Shopping Center. Thanks to photographer Kristen Alexander for letting us use her spectacular photos of Sprig!

Sugar Rush Candy Store is complete!

Sugar Rush Candy Store at North Point Mall is complete! We were very happy with the complete look we accomplished for our clients. And we hear they are VERY busy with kids on Saturdays! From giant gummy snakes to nostalgic candy and chocolates, they have just about everything you might crave. Sprig’s sign is installed!

Our long-awaited Sprig Restaurant and Bar sign was installed yesterday! Rhodes Design Group designed the logo and the sign for this new restaurant in Decatur. Atlanta Unlimited Signs took our vision and really put it together for us...they rusted the metal for a month and cut out the letters. We think it is SO awesome! Rhodes Design Group is also working hard on the buildout for the interior. Lots of cool stuff...zinc-topped bar and a wood wall that will have the Sprig logo routed into it. Opening date is projected to be around the first week of October. You can keep up with their menu and opening date on their Facebook page. Look for more updates on the buildout when we get photos!

Sugar Rush Candy Store

Here’s another project we’re working on...a candy store called Sugar Rush Candy Store at North Point Mall in Alpharetta. We designed the logo, store layout design and signage. We are also doing the build-out. Atlanta Unlimited Signs is just finishing up fabrication and it will all be installed by next Tuesday. We are looking forward to it! We’ve also included a quick photo of the purple chandelier that will hang in the store. It doesn’t look very big in the photo, but it’s actually 48" wide and will definitely make a statement when you walk into the store.

Liquid bar at Sage Woodfire Tavern – Perimeter

Here’s an update to our latest project...a liquid bar at Sage Woodfire Tavern – Perimeter. Not only did we finish the entrance tower (as mentioned on a previous blog), we renovated the inside to include a liquid bar area. The tiles in the bar are pre-loaded with a mixture of colored oil and water to give the illusion of hot lava. So, every time the top of the bar is touched, the liquid inside moves! We invite you to visit the complete renovation at 4505 Ashford Dunwoody Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30346. The restaurant is in the Park Place Center shopping plaza, directly across from the Perimeter Mall entrance.

Here's a new project we just completed and we were excited to be a part of it! Nickie Summers came to us with a vision. Using t-shirts as the vehicle, her goal was to create a movement that would inspire Americans to reconnect with the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and the Founding Fathers of our country. Rhodes Design Group took it from there and our creative team designed the logo, came up with the tagline Stand Up. Be Read.TM, t-shirt designs and an identity/brand package. The t-shirt image at the top proclaims “Question with Boldness” and is the first to be released for sale. The bottom images feature the press kit Nickie sent to Glenn Beck at FoxNews for his recent special on t-shirts that teens are wearing today. We’ll release more t-shirt images as we can...we think they are really COOL!

Renovations to Sage Woodfire Tavern at Perimeter

The exterior renovations to restaurant Sage Woodfire Tavern at Perimeter are almost complete! Nick Ladikos, Construction Coordinator for Rhodes Design Group, has been busy updating the exterior by adding the entrance tower and other cosmetic changes, including stone accents. The changes, all approved by leasing agent Coro Realty, should be finished by the end of January.

Rhodes Design Group has recently completed a renovation for The Diner at Sugar Hill. The owners bought an old Folks restaurant and came to us for the build-out. Completed in the same style as the previous diners, the refurbishment included the interior as well as exterior re-designs. What a difference!

Peggy Slappey Properties space is ready!

It’s all done! The finishing touches have been put on the Peggy Slappey Properties space and it is ready for occupancy. Definitely a job we are proud of!

One of the best parts of this job was making most of it green friendly! Our interior designer chose low VOC paints (Natura by Benjamin Moore) and we've used renewable resources throughout such as: bamboo for custom built furniture, silestone for the coffee bar counter and front desk, and 100% recycled chairs by Hermann Miller. We've also added energy efficient touches like Caroma dual flush toilets, touchless faucets and, of course, Energy Star appliances.

We designed this sign for the interior brick wall behind the receptionist’s desk at the new office for Peggy Slappey Properties. Our friends at Atlanta Unlimited Signs installed it this past Friday...we think it looks really cool!!

The new Peggy Slappy Properties office is not quite finished yet but we installed some new furniture and carpeting. This is a “lazy s” desk we designed specifically for this space. We’ll be installing a “wavy” divider down the center of the desk so that agents can sit on both sides. Again, we’ve used the plyboo on this project. It looks GREAT! The office should be open in 2-3 weeks...

The Peggy Slappey Properties office build-out is coming along as planned. We're almost done painting...lighting is going in....countertops and appliances for the coffee bar are going in today. Carpet should be going in next week. Overall, we are very pleased! One exciting aspect of this office is the fact that we have custom-designed and custom-fabricated the furniture from Plyboo – the coffee bar, receptionist desk...even Peggy's desk. Plyboo is FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council) made from 100% rapidly renewable bamboo. Best of all, there is no added formaldehyde to the panels...it all makes for a healthier office! We'll post more photos later this week once the lights and the countertops have been installed. We have a few more photos posted on the blog at www.greenfriendlyhomes.com.

The new Peggy Slappey Properties sign is everything we envisioned! We put it on paper and our friends at Atlanta Unlimited Signs built it. They installed yesterday...the electricians are working today to get power to it. There are a lot of LED lights in there...it's going to be AWESOME! The sign face itself is brushed aluminum with push-through acrylic letters...the letters will glow, the logo will glow and the blue oval will glow. The outer edges of the aluminum face will glow also. We will post a nighttime photo soon!! We can't wait to see it either!

The new exterior sign for the Peggy Slappey Properties space is being fabricated. These photos were taken about a week ago. It will be internally illuminated with brushed metal and some blue plexiglass. Our friends at Atlanta Unlimited Signs are doing a great job! We can't wait to see it installed.

Here's another view of the PSP build-out. The image on the left is the view produced in a program called Sketch-Up. Valerie, our CAD manager extraordinaire, has been able to help the client visualize the whole project in 3-D. You can literally move to each room and see everything from any angle. As you can see, we can show just about every detail -- even the texture of the wood grain and the brick wall. And she's still not done! The photo on the right shows almost the same angle in its current stage of build-out.

Restaurant Renovations

We’ve recently completed this restaurant renovation for The Diner at North Point (on Mansell Road in Alpharetta). As construction partners for this project, we totally renovated the outside (the before and after pictures from the same vantage point are posted here), made some interior modifications and helped choose interior finishes (such as tile). It was a fun project and nice to see the difference once it was completed.

We’re celebrating at Rhodes Design Group this week! Not only did we win a SILVER OBIE award for our new website (www.rhodesdesigngroup.com), Redmont Homes won a GOLD OBIE for their sales center at McGinnis Reserve which we designed for them (layout of space, displays, colors, etc). OBIE Awards are presented each year by the Sales and Marketing Council of the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association. These awards are the highest honor given in the Atlanta housing industry. We are very excited about the awards!! In the spirit of football season, GO TEAM!!

Here's the newest landscape view taken this morning. Those are tree-form Burford Hollies in front of the clock tower. The benches have been installed in front of the planters, too. Copper Creek entrance installed

Here's another cool project! The letters have been installed on the monument at the entrance wall to the Copper Creek community in Forsyth County. The monument will be back-filled and planted with shrubs and trees (Japanese maples!) within the next couple of weeks.

The sun was in our eyes but that was OK on this cold and windy morning! The final part of the fence is being installed and painted at The Veranda. Trees are being planted and benches are being put into place. We still can't wait for tomorrow...The official signage is being installed on the tower!

Pretty exciting stuff today! The letters for The Veranda are almost done! We visited the shop today where they are being made. The top photo is, of course, just the aluminum cut-outs. The second photo is of the returns. This is a pretty labor-intensive process. They bend each of these returns by hand and then they have to weld them on to the front of the letter. Each letter takes about 2 hours to complete. The bottom photo is a finished letter (sans paint). All of this will be completed and installed by next Thursday.

Brookhaven at Johns Creek Amenities Completed

Alex took these photos this past week at the Brookhaven project. The potting shed (top photo) is installed and will be painted. The garden beds are ready and waiting for some new plants and TLC.

The second photo is the bocce ball court and the croquet court. Since the sod was recently installed, it will be a few weeks until it’s in playing condition.

RDG now designing internationally

Caleb was asked by Marla Day-Fitzwater, Executive Director of American-Caribbean Experience (check out www.acexperience.org), if Rhodes Design Group could help out their organization. They needed some landplanning expertise for a 10-acre site in Jamaica that would be used as a safehouse for abused children. It would be a sustainable site with a children's cottage, a school, gynasium, sports fields....a place for their cattle and goats and, of course, a vegetable garden. As you can see by the images to the left (completed by our landscape architect Alex Brunson), Marla was taking the plans back to Jamaica to present to her Board of Directors....we are hoping for good response!

Aggregate on display...

Thanks to our "reporter in the field" Alex (aka Landscape Architect) who took this photo this morning. Hopefully you can see how nice the aggregate sidewalk looks....all the pieces are coming together....stucco, brick, stone, aggregate sidewalk.

We are going to make a visit to the sign fabricator this week or next and try to get some photos of the letters for the monument in progress.

Veranda View of the Week

Lots of busy workers this week! The clock is now installed, the planter walls are going up and a window (or two) have been installed. I've asked our "reporters in the field" to please send a photo of the aggregate sidewalk...we hear it really looks great! We should have a photo of that up soon.

Stonework time!

The final part of the building faces has been started...the stonework started going up over the weekend. It looks beautiful! It will really add a "finishing touch" to the overall look of the building. The stucco work is also continuing, as are the aggregate sidewalks.

Veranda Views

There’s been a lot of action at The Veranda this week. We’re pouring the front sidewalks (exposed aggregate) and it looks fantastic! Plaza planters are being built ad landscape lighting is being installed. The stucco finish is in progress. The stone will be one of the last main elements to be installed on the facade. The main sign monument is being fabricated. We are very pleased...

Restaurant Renovations

Here’s a new job we’re working on. We are completely tranforming this Mexican restaurant to become The Diner at NorthPoint. It will be a complete interior and exterior renovation. We are even moving the entrance from one side of the building to the other. Rebecca has been working closely with the owners to put a more contemporary look in the interior. Of course, we'll put up more photos as the job progresses.

Our office manager EXTRAORDINAIRE, Ms. Pam, has a birthday tomorrow! We are sending her birthday wishes today because, as is her birthday custom, she plays 54 HOLES of golf tomorrow. Needless to say, she is taking a well-deserved day off. Her tee time is 7:35 am. Now THAT'S dedication! Happy birthday Pam!

By the way, if you look closely to the left of Pam's shoulder, we had an office coloring contest. We colored the "Platinum Advisor" in the office (aka James). If you'd like one of those e-mailed to you, send a note to us and we'll make sure you get one! Color it and send it back to us!

Bricks and stucco

Outdoor Amenities Design

Here's a project we've been working on for the past month. Jim Chapman Communities asked us to design their outdoor amenities. We are currently overseeing the construction of a bocce ball court, croquet court (and later a putting green) as well as a community garden. Alex designed a potting shed and an area with raised garden beds for residents to plant warm and cool season vegetables. There's also going to be a small orchard near the gardens. Our portion of this project should be done within the next two months. They also asked us to come up with a site plan...we've come up with a more sophisticated site plan design that we can offer our clients. This site plan will have a final size of 44.5" square and will be in their sales center plat table. If you are interested in seeing a more detailed version of the site plan, e-mail Marybeth and she can send you a more readable version. We'll post more photos when we are done with the amenities.

The Veranda made news in the AJC business section this Sunday. James got a call from AJC reporter Mike Pearson who had just happened to drive by the site and saw our giant “business card” in front. The reporter was intrigued by some of the different and interesting architectural elements. We gathered a package together to send him and the result was a very nice write-up!

Here's our new “business card” for The Veranda. It's a 4'x 8' digital print mounted to alumacore. When we had it delivered to the office, it looked huge. On-site, it's the perfect size. We are all very proud of the way the job is progressing. Hopefully we'll be doing some of the build-outs starting in a few weeks.

Clint Wauters, owner of CW Masonry, Inc., has formed a new company that makes synthetic stone. We've created a new logo for him and eventually will do a website and brochure. Clint has worked with James for many, many years on various projects...The Manors at Tree Lane, Bridgehaven, Cobblestone Farms, Garner Creek at Parkview, just to name a few...his new stone will be featured at The Veranda at Fort Daniel. Tower Takes Shape

James is out at The Veranda bright and early this morning! As you can see, the tower is going up. They are starting to brick the back of the building. The steel is pretty massive...guess we know where to go if there's a hurricane here!

Here's our update for The Veranda at Fort Daniel this week. Alex and James were there for a meeting this morning and snapped this photo. The steel structure is going up and moving right along....

Cobblestone Farms

Cobblestone Farms is almost finished. We designed and built the entrance last summer. Looks like the amenities will be done for the summer months. Caleb is out at the project several times a week to get things wrapped up. BTS Properties developed the land and Millard Bowen Communities will handle the sales/marketing. The community is located in Forsyth County close to GA 400, near Jot-Em-Down Road.

We've created the logo for The Veranda...we've placed it on the concept drawing for the tower. We are currently working on how to create the letters...they will probably be individual letters that are backlit! Needless to say, we now look at all shopping center signage – especially at night – to see how readable they are. There's a lot of thought that goes into signage (or should be anyway!).

Wow! The steel is really going up fast! James took a photo this morning of the new shopping center during a meeting with the electrician. It's exciting to see it really taking shape now.

Here's the view this week from the retail center. The steel is going up...we hope to take a weekly shot from the exact point so you can really see the change from week to week. The name has officially been chosen for this site...it will be called "The Veranda at Fort Daniel"....look for the logo soon!

Meranova amenities moving along...

The amenities at Meranova at Mill Creek are moving right along. The clubhouse structure is built and we'll begin finishing it out now. Completion date will be in June...Front entrance and all design/construction management of amenities by Rhodes Design Group!

The slab has been poured and the steel structure will start going up for this Peggy Slappey Properties project. We will be taking weekly photos from this same spot so that you can see the progress being made on the shopping center. This light commercial project has been a lot of fun for RDG...there are lots of details to think about!

Rhodes Design Group is currently working on a new project for Peggy Slappey Properties. This new shopping center is located on Hwy. 324 in Dacula, near Fort Daniel. All landplanning, landscape architecture and architectural design of the building was done in-house by the RDG creative team. The shopping center will feature 25 shops, including a restaurant area and the new offices for Peggy Slappey Properties. Expected completion date for the center will be August 2008. Check back and we'll post photos as we go vertical!
